Starting at the beginning of May and running thru the end of October 2023 I will be guiding full time for river smallies in Wisconsin. The rivers you will fish include the Chippewa, Flambeau, and Jump near Lake Holcombe in Rusk County. In this report I had friends of mine (Dick & Mary) from my college days join my wife and I for some early fall smallmouth action. As luck would have it they arrived when we were in the throws of “cold front conditions”. Clear skies, northwesterly winds, and a rising barometer don’t bode well for a productive day on the water. They fished hard and managed to catch some really nice fish. Dick caught the first four pound smallie of our fall fishing trip. It was nineteen inches long and weighed four pounds one ounce. Mary was not to be denied and caught a hefty smallie that was just shy of nineteen inches and weighed three pounds and eleven ounces. A picture of Mary proudly displaying her personal best smallie is included in this report.
