Today was the day I have been waiting for since last spring. That day is when the big egg-laden smallies starting showing up in the Little Pigeon River in numbers. For the past couple of weeks we have been catching a big female here and there, but the majority of the fish we caught today were large as they continue to migrate up the Little Pigeon River to spawn. I was fishing with Robert Fuller my good friend and fishing buddy from Charlston, West Virginia. The majority of the fish were between 17 and 21 1/2 in. We caught 5 fish over 20 in. The big fish of the day pictured above weighed 5 lb. 6 oz. and was 21 1/2 in. long. All of the fish were released unharmed back into the Little Pigeon.
