Today I had the pleasure of taking Patrick and his sons Sean (10 yrs.) and Matthew (8 yrs.) on a guided smallmouth trip on the Little Pigeon and French Broad Rivers. The cold weather has persisted over the past few days. This in turn has significantly dropped the water temperatures and slowed the bite. I shared this with Patrick and let him know upfront that the fishing was slow and we might want to fish another day. He said he understood what they were up against but still wanted to give it a shot. The fishing was indeed slow. They fished hard and managed to catch four smallies, one white bass, and a drum in four hours of fishing. A picture of Sean with a nice French Broad River smallie is included in this report.
