I shifted gears and made a trip over to the Holston River. The river is very fishable right now with the low discharge rates from Cherokee Dam. The water temperature was 70 degrees in the section I fished. I caught 17 fish the majority of those being smallmouth, but I also caught a few bonus largemouth. The average size of the fish were smaller than what I have seen on the French Broad. That is not surprising because the area I typically fish on the French Broad is known for its big smallmouth. This dark colored 19 incher (pictured above) was the big fish of the day.
