Good friends of mine from Missouri made the trip to East Tennessee to experience the pre-spawn run of smallies on the Little Pigeon River. I had been sharing with Dave, his son in law Marco, and Dave’s grandson Noah during deer camp on Dave’s farm last fall how great the smallmouth fishing can be on the Little Pigeon during the month of April. Marco gave this two day fishing trip as a surprise gift to Dave during Christmas. Their timing could not have been any better. The conditions on the Little Pigeon were almost ideal. The water was stained with a temperature of sixty-one degrees. The prespawn migration had been well under way for the past few weeks. The three anglers from the “Show Me State” caught 42 smallies. Noah caught the first walleye of his life today in the middle of the hot smallie bite. He also captured the big fish of the day honors with a dandy nineteen inch smallie that weighed 3 lbs. 8 oz. A picture of Noah with that handsome Little Pigeon River smallie is included in this report. Their second day of catching was even better. Stay tuned…
