Another day of consistent weather and water conditions. TVA continued to generate an average of 16,000 cfs from below Douglas Dam and the weather was sunny with highs in the low eighties. It was a beautiful day to enjoy the weather and the fishing on the French Broad and Little Pigeon Rivers here in East Tennessee. The Little Pigeon was clear and the French Broad was slightly stained. I could definitely tell that there was an uptick in the smallie action today compared to yesterday especially on the French Broad. The water temperature in the French Broad was fifty-four degrees as opposed to the Little Pigeon coming in a bit warmer at around sixty. I caught the majority of the twenty-six smallies I landed today in the French Broad so the colder water didn’t seem to phase them a bit. Most of the fish I caught today like most of my trips this spring were in that fifteen to seventeen inch range. I had a few that were eighteen’s and one that was nineteen and a half, but no twenty plus inch fish ended up in the boat today. Tomorrow’s conditions are supposed to be similar to today’s, so I hope that third day of stability and consistency with the weather and water will really turn the fish on.
