I had the pleasure of guiding Dean, Jerry, and Kevin from Georgia and North Carloina. For the first time in almost the thirty years I have been fishing this water I had an angler catch a tagged smallmouth. I came to learn after the fact that TWRA tagged smallmouths in the spring of this year in the section of the French Broad River from Douglas Dam downstream to the confluence with the Holston River. Kevin was the lucky angler a who caught that dandy tagged smallmouth that measured just shy of nineteen inches. I say lucky because because when you submit the information about a tagged fish to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA)  the State of Tennessee will send you a reward of $100.00. The guys dubbed the fish “Hundred Dollar Henrietta”. It was only days after Kevin made the phone call to TWRA that he received his check in the mail. We had a great bite about an hour before dark and before it was all said and done the group had caught 41 smallies. Many of those fish were over eighteen inches. No “Citation Smallmouths” (20″ or longer) were caught today, but Kevin came close with a really nice fish that measured 19 ⅞” and weighed 3 lbs. 11 oz. A picture of  of Kevin with that beautifully “barred up” fish is included in this report.
