I had the pleasure of taking Randy and Mike from Knoxville for some river smallie fishing on both the French Broad and Little Pigeon Rivers today. It was sunny and hot with the Little Pigeon River running low and gin clear. Clear enough that both anglers had the opportunity to sight cast for some of those post spawn French Broad River smallies that continue to exit the Little Pigeon. Douglas Dam was generating at 4500 cfs which gave us an opportunity to fish the big river today. Both anglers are kayak fishermen and have spent time plying the waters of the Holston River, but have not spent much time fishing the French Broad or the Little Pigeon. They caught a variety of sizes of smallies, but Randy did manage to catch a dandy smallie that was just shy of twenty inches. A picture of Randy proudly holding the biggest smallie of his life is included in this report. Randy and Mike were a couple of great guys to have in the boat and I was happy that they had a successful day on the water.
