I had the pleasure of guiding Tim and his 15 year old son Timmy on the French Broad today. They were on vacation in Dandridge and had fished Douglas Lake from shore in several locations but were not having any success. Tim was raised in West Tennessee and had grown up fishing  ponds, lakes, and rivers, but had never caught a smallmouth bass. He said he didn’t care what kind of fish they caught as long as they caught at least one fish.  I let him know that the smallie bite had been slow over the past couple of weeks however, we had been catching a few smallies on each trip along with variety of other freshwater species. And that is exactly what materialized on today’s trip. They both caught a variety of species that included hybrids, white bass, catfish, and several smallies in a variety of sizes. The picture of Tim holding a nice 16 ½ in. smallie is included in this report. Neither one had caught a smallie so I was happy they were able to enjoy how hard they fight coupled with their aerial performances in an attempt to shake the hook. Tim and Timmy were a couple of great guys. I had a blast watching them catch the fish that they did today especially after their frustrating attempts to bring one to the shore up on Douglas Lake. Later that evening Tim sent a nice text that said “We had a great time. Thanks for the memories.” At the end of the day that kind of sums thing up. Fishing truly is about having a great time and making memories…
