Today we took a trip up the Flambeau River. It is the lowest I have seen it in several years.  We skated over several shallow spots with my jet boat that were only inches deep. The majority of the fish we caught today were in sparsely covered weed beds in water less than eighteen inches deep. This was a real surprise. We ended up catching 26 smallies in about five hours of fishing. No giants today, but many of the fish we caught were in the 2-2 ½ pound range. I did catch a smallie that was 18 ¼” that weighed 3 lbs. 1 oz. It was the big fish of the day. I mention this fish because it was one of the hardest fighting river smallies I have caught in my life.
