I made my annual pilgrimage to northern Wisconsin to fish for those fall smallies on the Flambeau, Chippewa, and Jump Rivers. The latter half of September and the first couple of weeks in October is historically the best time to fish for smallies on these rivers as they migrate downstream to overwinter in the Holcombe Flowage. Pictured above is a nice 19 in. Chippewa River smallmouth that was landed on this first day of what I hope will be some productive fall fishing over the next several weeks.
