For the past few years I have been stopping by a local convenience store to buy bait, food, and fishing supplies and befriended one of the employees who likes to fish. Dave used to own a home on the Flambeau River and we have talked frequently about spending a day on the water chasing those migrating fall smallmouth, but could never quite get our schedules together. This year we were finally able to make that happen. The day was warm and windy for early October and the fish were hitting well. We caught about 35 smallies and ended the day with a double hook up on a pair of fat 3 lb. plus Flambeau smallies.
